Hundreds of people participated in gathering in the Town Hall Square of Almuñécar in protest over the water situation.

The event was organised by the Junta Central de Usuarios Ríos Verde Seco y Jate and figures from political parties and the business sector were present.

A small stage had been set up in front of the Town Hall’s main entrance, on which the Mayor, Juan José Ruiz Joya and representatives from the PP, Más Almuñécar, Ciudadanos, IU-Podemos, CA and PSOE addressed those gathered.

Representatives of the different irrigation associations also took turns to go onto the stage and add their voices and message. There were even representatives from schools and the construction sector.

All of them coincided in emphasising the importance of speaking up to save 3,500 hectares of irrigated plantations, and, of course, the importance of standing united in their demands.

There was also a call for everybody to support the protest march in Motril on the 27th (mentioned in a previous article).
