This coming 10th of September, there will be a beach clean-up in Salobreña, starting at 10.00h and lasting until 13.00h.

This clean-up is part of the Programa de Educación Ambiental 2022 and involves splitting volunteers into teams – this one on Saturday will be the eighth such activity.

Councillor for Tourism, Gabriel Alonso, explained that those interest can put their names down via an online form which has been set up for the event.

Volunteers should make up groups of between six and eight people, lead by a team captain. The organisation will provide gloves, bags and plastic, fruit boxes where any rubbish picked up will be placed.

Together with those working on the beach, volunteers from the Club de Buceo Universitario and from the Aula del Mar belonging to the Universidad de Granada, will comb the seabed. They will also give a talk to the beach volunteers about the importance of the ecosystem.

The meeting point on the big day is the Plaza de La Guardia and once all is concluded those who participated will be invited to an aperitif and a drink, sponsored by Restaurante Rufino, which in La Guardia.

“The activity intends to make people conscious of the damage done to marine life by human refuse, scattered along beaches,” said the Councillor for the Environment, Angela Rodríguez, adding, “participants will not only be supporting the environment by cleaning up the beaches, but also helping to spread the message.”
