Patos in The Park

The Salobreña Parque La Fuente, also known as the Parque de Los Patos, will earn this informal name again because the quacks are back!

The ducks disappeared in 2015 after vandals massacred them. The new arrivals will be some that have been donated by locals and their presence should return a long-absent attraction to the park.

The thing is that once there are some resident ducks in the park, they will attract passing wild ones who will use the park as a stop over.

Of course, the pond that had stood empty for years had to be refilled first, which was the first step, along with mending a few breakages.

The Councillor for Parks & Gardens, Luis Cano, is worried that vandals could take a renewed interest in the park, knowing that there are “sitting ducks” in the park, but despite these doubts, his department had decided to go ahead with the idea.

Back in 2015, what can only be described as thugs, managed to enter the park with dogs, which did the dirty work, slaying 24 birds; almost all of the duck population.

The said councillor said that they are also working on a lease contract for the park kiosk.
