Carmenes Compulsary Purchase

Almuñécar Town Hall has given the green light to begin the compulsary purchase of two plots of land to give Urb. Carmens del Mar an alternative access.

All told, 27,000 sq/m of land, situated at the top of the urbanización, will be affected by the compulsary purchase order, which will be necessary to provide the access road, pavements, street lighting, etc.

The Urban Development Department valued the land at 34,000 euros, however there will be a period of one month of public exposition so that those who wish to can officially lodge their objections.

The access road itself, which has a budget of 651,136 euros, will connect the upper housing area of Altos de Cármenes, with a loop of the old N-340 – the one that goes round the Cerro Gordo tunnel, passing by the old restaurante, Mirador de Cerro Gordo. This access point was never contemplated

At present, Calle Encina is the highest street on the Urbanización Los Altos which ends in a small cul-de-sac roundabout. The new access lane will connect at this point, turning north and running along the hillside until it meets up with the old N-340.

The Councillor for Urban Development, Javier García, admitted that the project was very necessary because after a heavy downfall of rain the urbanización could lose its only access road. He explained that once work started, it would last three months.
