Motril Town Hall Apologises

As if the beach itself weren't sizzling enough, Motril beach users are equally over heated, but not because of the heatwave, but because of the beach deficiencies.

MOT New Chiringuito Playa de PonienteThe Motril Town Hall, aware that Motrileños and out-of-town visitors are far from chuffed with the lack of beach amenities, has come out and apologised for this dearth, promising that it will be made good by the end of July – not exactly a solution for those who have come to take their summer holidays in July on Playa Granada.

Yes, somebody slipped up big time and it might be a good idea to suggest that they find alternative employment outside the public sector, but Motril has done a lot to improve its beaches over the previous months.

Costas and the Town Hall have built up the beach area around the chiringuitos so that they don’t wake up one morning as little islands, which had become the norm. New accesses have been made available and the Senda Litorial (shore pathway) has been extended. Winter storms have carved away at the beaches but they have been restored before summer arrived.

“I would like to apologise for this delay,” said the Councillor for Tourism & Beaches, José Lemos, adding, “It will all be ready soon, with many areas totally completed and by the end of July we can confirm that all is ready.”

The dog beach (Playacan) will be the last one to be finished and the councillor promised that two lifeguard lookout towers would be erected on Playa de Poniente. Lastly, this weekend the sun loungers, sunshades, ice-cream kiosks, together with a new chiringuito next to the Espeto one, will be operative.
