Body Repatriation Donations

We reported on the death of a young woman who had drowned in the Cubillas Reservoir last Saturday. Now friends are trying to get her remains sent home.

GRA Cubillas Reservoir 400x250The 19-year-old victim was a Romanian woman and her family lives in a Romanian-Gypsy settlement on Camino de los Yeseros in the city of Granada.

However, they do not have the funds needed to have her body returned to her birthplace in Romania.

Such an arrangement would cost 3,500 euros so Médicos del Mundo, which has been attending to the health needs of the Romanian-Gypsy community there, has decided to help out by making an appeal for the family to this end, which needs to be carried out within a couple of days.

Médicos del Mundo tried approaching several organisations and institutions for them to take charge but nobody was interested or had the funds, which is the same case for M.d.M., themselves.

So they are appealing to the “good will and solidarity” of anybody moved to help out by donating money via the Bizum app to their phone number.

Readers might remember a simliar incident in Castell de Ferro three years ago: A Romanian resident’s wife died from an illness and locals managed to raise 4,000 euros to have her body sent home.

For more information, the phone numbers at the Médicos del Mundo offices in Granada are 858 954 081 and 676 317 885.

Update 30th: The body of Andrea is on its way back to Romania thanks to the very generous and quick response to the NGO’s pleas for donations.
