Playa de Cantarriján was the scene of eight nude weddings last month in a ceremony organised by the Asociación de Amigos de la Play Nudista de Cantarriján.
Apparently, this was the first time since 1934 that so many nudist weddings have taken place at the same location.
The actual weddings were held inside the Chiringuito La Barraca in two different ceremonies; one in a naturist mode and the other civil-marriage ceremony.
The former was in homage to those pioneering naturists from before the repression years of the Franco regime and the latter was a more formal affair to celebrate the actual weddings, officiated by the Councillor the Environment, Luis Aragón.
Councillor Aragón read out a poem by Víctor Hugo about couples, which was met by applause. Then came the toasting, the wedding cake and the photos for the family albums.
The association spoke of the misconception that nudity is synonymous with sexual activity but that increasingly the spread of nudity as a form of expression is helping to eliminate this erroneous attitude.
With the high temperatures at the end of last month and the good sea conditions the nudist season on Playa Cantarriján has begun.
