Over 700 runners participated on Sundy the 24th in a cross-country race as part of the Circuito Universo Lorca del Gran Premio de Fondo.
It wasn’t to hot to go panting around town, in fact it was the perfect weather conditions. The 10km-race was on level ground at sea level; i.e., along the beachfront mostly but also around other parts of the town, after setting off from the municipal stadium, which also served as the finishing line.
The winners were Esteban Milena (Universo Running) and Carolina Huertas. The former managed to do the circuit in 32 minutes and 10 seconds. Twenty seconds later Manuel Santiago (Bewor) crossed the line followed by Víctor Torres (Universo Running).
In the women’s category, Carolina Huertas completed the run in 37 minutes 49 seconds, followed by Zhor El Amrani (Maracena), in 38 minutes and 41 seconds and in third place Mari Carmen Palma (Maracena) with a time of 39 minutes and 18 seconds.
The municipal brass band banged out a tune to encourage them when the runners reached the Municipal School of Music.
