A Frenchman had to be rescued on Monday along Río Chillar in Nerja after falling and banging his head.
The 60-year-old man had been hiking along this popular hiking route with a group of compatriots when he slipped and banged his head, producing a nasty, gash, as well as fracturing one of his wrists.
The accident took place in the Vado de los Patos area along the river course, which is next to the largest waterfall along the route.
It was necessary to call out the fire service because there was no way an ambulance or any wheeled vehicle could have reached him. Protección Civil also participated in the rescue (seen in the photo above).
This has been the first rescue operation on this hiking route during the six months that have elapsed since the Town Hall lifted the ban upon entering the area for recreational purposes, which had been in place since summer 2020 in the middle of the pandemic.
In fact, the Town Hall continues to request that the Junta takes control of access to the area, as it falls within their administrative responsibility (the Parque Natural de las Sierras Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama).
Editorial comment: readers might remember the case of the Dutch tourist that was lost for 18 days in the area in 2011, who managed to survive on a diet of water – the victim lost 18 kilos in weight.
