Two men were arrested by the Guardia Civil after their boat was intercepted with nearly half a tonne of hashish onboard.
The Servicio Marítimo (Guardia Civil) launch, Río Genil, was patrolling off Castell de Ferro when it received instructions from the coastal radar vigilance system (SIVE) to intercept a leisure craft not far off its patrol course.
They found the boat close to 07.00h on Sunday morning, five nautical miles south of Castell de ferro.
When the Guardia Civil boarded the boat they instructed the two men to set sail for Motril Port where they would be inspected. Once there, the port police found just under 500 kilos of hashish concealed within 20 fuel containers, which would have been off loaded onto a nearby beach where presumible accomplices would be waiting to transfer the cargo.
