The Banco de España announced the putting into circulation of a new, 2-euro coin on the 23rd of last month.
Provincial branches of the Bank of Spain began issuing these special commemorative coins, one of which is dedicated to the Parque Nacional de Garajonay and the other celebrates the 500th-year anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the world.
The next commemorative coin for all of the Euro Zone will be on the 1st of July and dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus Programme.
According to the Numismática Visual webpage, in order to obtain one of these coins you have to make an appointment at your nearest branch of the Banco de España, which you can obtain through the bank’s own webpage. You can also do it by phone (913 385 000, which is a common number to all of their branches) between 08.00h and 15.00h from Monday to Friday.
You can’t buy individual coins but a minimum of a roll of them; each roll contains 25 coins so you will have to pay 50 euros.
