The Cofradía del Nazareno y la Esperanza in Motril reported the theft of several of their procession possessions.
According to the Hermano Mayor (Elder Brother) Adrián Martín, they reported the burglary around 21.30h on Monday night after entering the place where the procession throne is stored on calle Gloria and found the entrance lock had been forced – they were going to carry out a training evening.
Once inside they realised that three procession maces, each valued at 350 euros, were missing.
“They’re made from brass and do not have any real value although for us the sentimental (intrinsic) value is incalculable – we’ve had them for many years” explained Sr. Martín.
The Brotherhood hopes that the Policía Nacional will find those responsible. The police are now on the lookout for any of the stolen items to turn up for sale somewhere.
Editorial comment: the term ‘brotherhood’ always sounds a bit sinister but the first time you come across a Semana Santa procession, it certainly looks very sinister so what the hell…
