Another boat ran aground on Playa de Charchuna, this time deliberately, because it was carrying immigrants.

The motorboat, which set off from Nador on the Moroccan coast, made land more or less in front of Urbanización La Chucha, about 02.00h Sunday morning with 32 illegal immigrants onboard.

In fact, it was beached just a few hundred metres from the large yacht that ran aground and is presently abandoned, as the owner has apparently ‘disowned’ it.

The passengers on this second boat, amongst them two women, were arrested shortly after reaching land by the Guardia Civil, who took them to receive a medical check up by Red Cross volunteers in Motril Port. They were also tested for Covid, which has been the practice since the pandemic began.

The immigrant craft will remain where it is until the protocol can be put in place for it to be removed.
