Another Vega Fire in Salobreña

There was yet another fire down on the Salobreña vega; this one near the river mouth, next to the 18 Nudos installations.

SAL Landing Area for Motorised ParaglidersThe fire was reported to the Policía Local around 12.30h yesterday afternoon, who in turn informed the Motril fire service. They were able to put it out in just over an hour.

This rapid fire extinction is surprising given the drought conditions and the type of vegetation; mainly wild sugarcane.

It is not known at the moment how it started, although the police have ruled out provisionally that it was somebody burning cuttings, as it is an area that is fenced off and cleared of vegetation (although with wild cane around the perimeter).

This is because this patch of land is used as a landing area for motorised paragliders, as well as for aeromodelling enthusiasts using radio-control, model aircraft.
