The ex-socialist councillor for the Granada City Hall, José Miguel Castillo Higueras, has died in hospital hours after being mugged in the city.
The attack by a single mugger who had been trailing him took place on Calle Frailes where it joins Calle Padre Alcocer around seven yesterday morning.
The assailant punched him in the face and the ex councillor fell heavily to the ground, banging his head. The mugger then ran off.
As a consequence of the blow and the fall, Sr. Castillo Higueras suffered an injury that ended his life just three hours later whilst being attended in the A&E Department of one of the city’s hospitals.
A friend had begun to worry when he could not contact him; time was passing and nothing had been heard from him, so he called the police who already knew what had happened to him and that he had been hospitalised in a critical state.
The Policía Nacional are investigating the crime and have been checking CCTV images for clues.
