A driver was stopped on the A-44 (Costa Tropical-Granada) Wednesday night travelling the wrong way along the lanes - he was drunk.
The emergency, call-centre, 112 received several calls from other drivers around 23.00h to say that they had passed a car heading southbound on the northbound lanes.
He had gone down the wrong ramp at the Dúrcal junction.
The 63-year-old driver, resident of Dúrcal, was flagged down by a Guardia Civil patrol car near Rules Reservoir – they had stopped the traffic at the Vélez de Benaudalla junction to prevent a head-on collision.
When the driver stepped out of the car he had no idea where he was and claimed that he had got lost on the way home. He was reportedly so drunk that he fell over whilst speaking to the police – he was five times over the limit. They picked him up off the ground and checked his ID.
The Guardia Civil then called a breakdown lorry to take the car away and drove the man to his house in Dúrcal, pending appearing before a judge.
