The Parque Sandovala in Almuñécar, which was inaugurated last month, has become the second park for dogs in the municipality.
This new park runs alongside Avenida Amelia Sánchez de Alcázar, more or less behind Edificio La Pirámide, providing somewhere to take your dog for a walk and meet his or her canine colleagues, for the residents of the western side of Almuñécar.
Local building company, José Antonio García Cabrera, landed the works contract, worth 11,000 euros, to set up the park and the its perimeter fence.
Almuñécar’s first canine park was inaugurated last February and can be found in the Jardines de Alhucemas in front of the padel court belonging to the stadium. This dog park, which covers 1,000 sq/m, occupies space that was originally intended for general use when it was created in 2006 but which never took off as a popular public space.
Editorial comment: Sandovala is the whole vega behind the Paseo de San Cristóbal. Back in the days of Benavides there was the idea of turning the whole of the vega there into a park, as well as an inland marina reached via the river mouth, suitably deepened.
