The Ministerio de Transportes y Movilidad reopens today the last part of the A-7 that had been closed because of a large rockfall near Castell de Ferro.
It was back in March when a whole, hillside cutting collapsed onto the Almería-bound lanes of the A-7, just before the Castell de Ferro exit.
The rubble covered all but one lane (a Málaga-bound one) but that was not the only problem because what was left of the hillside was in a very fragile state and a further collapse was on the cards.
Whilst heavy machinery was at work, both clearing the autovía lanes and levelling off the hillside, eastbound traffic was diverted along the N-340 and westbound was reduced to single-lane traffic until the other westbound was cleared and re-tarmacked.
The final work that was being carried out; the stabilising of the cutting, concluded yesterday, so both Almería lanes will be opened and the normal Castell de Ferro junction can be used again.
