The Junta has selected coastal towns in Andalucía that will receive help, getting their beaches repaired; only Salobreña was selected on the Costa Tropical.
This grant is for “environmental recuperation and sustainable use of beaches on the Andalusian coastline 2021.”
Last year, Granada bagged half the total amount available for the whole of Andalucía, sharing out almost two-million euros between them but this year, Salobreña is the only lucky one.
The Junta set aside 5.7m euros for this grant system. Forty-four coastal towns applied for the grant, amongst them six Costa Tropical towns… and five were disappointed.
Salobreña had presented a project that required half a million in funding. The project’s aim is to improve beach services (new beach modules). There will also be a sort of mini island with an octopus on it with the idea of promoting recycling… no comment.
Polopos-La Mamola, Lújar, Rubite, Albuñol and Carchuna-Calahonda were the unlucky, Costa Tropical candidates this year.
Editorial comment: If there is something reassuring to be taken from this it is that the conservative-controlled Junta did not let partisan feeling sway their judgement, as Polopos (PP) didn’t get their grant but Salobreña (PSOE) did.
