Swimming The Bay Competition

The annual across-the-bay swimming competition, La Travesía a Nado de la Bahía de La Herradura, has come around again and will be held tomorrow, Sunday the 5th.

LHR swimming competition OnLThis 21st edition, which is organised by the Provincial Council with the collaboration of Almuñécar Town Hall, will concluded the Circuito Provincial de Travesías.

This swimming event consists of seven categories (male and female): infantiles, junior, sénior, máster 30, máster 40, máster 50 and máster 60. The minimum age to participate is 8-years old.

The competition begins at 11.30h, starting with the children’s category, between the Varadero de Dani and La Caleta, covering 500 lineal metre.

The rest of the categories will cover the distance of 1,500 metres between Peña Parda and La Caleta. Competitions will set off at different time, depending on their category, starting at 11.36h.

The first three past the post in each category will receive a trophy. There will also be a trophy for the eldest competitor and for each competitor with a disability.

Prior to this closing event with the provincial swimming competitions, similar competitions have been held in reservoirs: Cubillas, Colomera, Negratín (Cuevas del Campo), and Bermejales (Arenas del Rey), as well as on Castell de Ferro beach. The one that had been organised for Salobreña had to be cancelled because of rough sea conditions.
