Three youths died in a road accident yesterday morning when their car left the road near Arenas del Rey, next to the Pantano de Bermejales.

The three victims, one of whom was a 17-year-old minor and the other two were aged 18 and 20, had been driving along a rural lane that comes out on the main road.

It is not known at the moment how the driver lost control of the vehicle resulting in it coming to rest jammed between two trees.

The Alhama de Granada fire service had to cut the roof off the car – a 3-door sports car – to be able to recover the bodies. One of the victims was from Ventas de Huelma, one was from Pinos Puente and the third from Valderrubio, explained the Mayor of Arenas del Rey.

According to the 112 report, the call centre received a call at 07.25h reporting the accident, which took place near kilometre-point 22.5km on the GR-3302. The caller reported that a car had shot down an embankment and that there were people trapped inside.

However, when the Guardia Civil, fire service and ambulance arrived all three occupants were already dead.
