The little Alpujarra village of Busquístar has a big date coming up this month in the form of the Festival de Jazz y Blues de la Alpujarra.
This year will be the 14th year that Busquístar has held this festival. Last year it was cancelled because of the pandemic but this year it’s back and includes both local and international performers between the 4th and the 8th of this month.
The festival will be opened by the Lucía Trío and this first concert will have free entrance. The event also features the Barcelona Big Blues Band, Big Laurance Trío and the Cuban Jazz Syndicate.
Besides this Jazz & Blues festival in Busquístar, the province also has Jazz en el Lago in Atarfe and Jazztedigo in Baza during the year, so it’s not only Almuñécar that holds Jazz festivals.
Both Lucia Rey and Belle McNulty figure on the albumn, Mujeres de Jazz which was sponsored by the Provincial Council for Culture.
You can buy entrance tickets at the door an hour before the performance begins for eight euros per concert. Alternatively, you can buy a festival pass for 28 euros. As for the free-entrance night, you have to have an ‘invitation’ which you can pick up at the Town Hall from now up to 14.00h on the 4th.
