The PP opposition party in Salobreña has accused the Mayor’s party of shifty business over the contract to provide Christmas Lights last year.
Party Spokesman, Gustavo Aybar, says that he has in his possesion copies of the denuncia made by a lighting company for being passed over in favour of another company
The Councillor for Fiestas, Gabriel Alonso, has responded by rebuking the PP for “launching unfounded accusations.”
So, what’s the problem about? Well, the Councillor says that as the contract was inferior to 15,000 euros, it did not have to go through a bidding process but could be awarded directly. Furthermore, the company that was passed over was informed directy why the Town Council had not decided in their favour.
The Mayor weighed in and reminded the PP that theirs is the only party that has received a judicial condemnation for dubious Christmas-lights contracts: the PP-run adminstration failed to pay that very same company whom they are now defending, for Christmas lighting during the term when it held the mayoralty. When the PSOE took over in 2011 they had to pay out 130,000 euros for bills that had not been paid from 2007 to 2009, and for this reason was unable to provide any Christmas lights at all for that year (2011).
