Radio Salobreña launched a tradition inocentada today, as the 28th of December is Spain’s April Fool’s Day.
With a glowing report on a lift or elevator that had been installed to lift people from the Gambullón up the rock face to the old town taking eight pedestrians at a time to the Mirador just in front of the radio station building.
To give more credence to the report as there being no sign of such a structure, Radio Salobreña explained that rather than travelling up the side of the rock face, engineers had managed to tunnel a shaft through the rock.
In reality, there has long been the idea of building an elevator system up the side (but on the outside) of the rock face or along the lines of the cable car like the one in Gibraltar to reach the top of the rock.
It’s a good idea and would give tourists and residents alike a way of reaching the castle and old town without having to driver up there.
Enhorabuena y muy buena, Eduardo!
