Junta on Madrid Second Homes

AND Junta PM MorenoThe Prime Minister of the Regional Government of Andalucia (Junta) said that they would be monitoring second homes on the coast owned by Madrileños.

PM Juanma Moreno, speaking on the 30 districts in the Region of Madrid that are locked down said that they were concerned about people moving down from Madrid to avoid the restrictions by taking up residence in Andalucía, especially the coastal areas.

The Catalán PM, Quim Torra, said that he would recommend that Catalans stay away from Madrid and when the Andalusian PM was asked if he would do the same he replied that he didn’t like the response of his Catalan counterpart.

He considered that it was neither “prudent nor appropriate,” to react like this towards other regions of Spain, preferring to express “solidarity” with the Madrileños.

After a Government Board Meeting he said that they would not be applying confinements measures for the moment as the figure of 1,600 infected within a population of 8.5m people is a very small percentage. However, he emphasised that his administration was prepared to act if necessary, imposing “selective confinement in some areas” should the situation require such action.

Sr. Moreno insisted that the Junta’s contingency plans are based more on the number of people hospitalised (rather than the total number infected) in order to avoid over saturation of the ICU facilities, as was the case in March and April. Therefore, the contingency plans would come into effect upon reaching 3,000 people being hospitalised with Covid-19 – at the moment it is around a thousand.

Finally, he pointed out that 60% of those infected in Andalucía are found in Sevilla and Málaga; i.e., the two provinces with the largest populations.
