Salobreña Pensioners Rebel

SAL Pensioners Rebel OnLFor many, many weeks, ever Monday religiously, pensioners would gather to protest over pensions all over Spain – Salobreña was no exception.

Of course, during the Lockdown this activity was put on hold but now they’re back, and in the case of Salobreña, the Plataforma de Pensionistas de Salobreña were out on Monday in the Plaza de la Pontanilla.

You really don’t want to upset elderly pensioners, if you are a politician, because they have plenty of time during the week to dedicate themselves to making the lives of politicians pretty miserable.

This latest protest on the Pontanilla, comprising of 30 grumbling pensioners thoroughly enjoying themselves,  included a communiqué form the Coordinadora Andaluza de Pensionistas, demanding that the accounting of Seguridad Social be audited by an independent body.

According to the communiqué, during the years of the Felipe González, José María Aznar and José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero governments, inappropriate withdrawals were probably carried out amounting to 500,000m euros (that’s a lot of money). The lack of funds in the pensions pot has suffered because of this.

So, if you would like a good beef, then pop along to the Plaza de la Pontanilla on a Monday at noon (12.00h). In fact, as the Monday the 1st of October is also the International Day of the Elderly, they’re planning are larger than normal gathering!
