Bad Luck or Plain Stupidity

GRA No Overtaking OnLThe Public Prosecutor for Granada has recommended a 5-year sentence and a fine of 27,980 euros for a woman caught with a backpack of drugs in her car boot.

The woman was stopped by the traffic police on the N-323 (old road to Granada from the coast) at 11.50h on the 29th of October, 2019. The reason that they pulled her over was because she had carried out an illegal overtaking manoeuvre; i.e. she had crossed an unbroken white line in the centre of the road.

The woman’s ID was run through the police computer and it came back that she had a criminal record for drug dealing, so they asked to look in the boot. Inside was the school-kid, satchel containing a diversity of different kinds of drugs, together with a precision weighing scale. The drugs had been split up into small packages for sale.

Just the cocaine had a street value of 12,600 euros, but add to that the heroin, 960 euros and the hashish, 430 euros, then you can see where the fine amount and prison sentence was calculated.

She is due to appear on the 24th of this month.

Editorial comment: the stupidity of petty criminals never fails to amaze – if you’re carrying such things in your car, the last thing you want to do is attract the attention of the police…
