There was a bit of a scare up in the Loma del Gato and La Golondrina area above Taramay and the N-340 roundabout, yesterday, when a fire broke out.
However, thanks to the prompt reaction of the fire service, Policía Local, and the locals themselves, who participated in putting it out, the fire only consumed about half a hectare.
The strong westerly winds and high temperatures didn’t exactly help matters, though, but even so, within half an hour it was declared out.
But this wasn’t the first fire in the area this weekend past because around 23.00h on Saturday night a fire was reported on the Carretera de La Cabra (A-4050) within the municipality of Padul. Eighteen fire fighters and two fire trucks were used to tackle the blaze, managing to extinguish the fire by 01.20h Sunday morning.
According to Infoca, the fire consumed virtually a hectare of grassland and brush. Owing to the late hour and lack of vehicles on this back road at the time, it was not necessary to temporarily close it to traffic whilst it was being dealt with.
