The Junta de Andalucía, unlike other regions that have enforced obligatory mask use, insists upon a person carrying a medical authorisation exempting the bearer from using a mask.
The Policía Local belonging to the city of Granada have detected citizens offering an Internet-download document that is supposed to give the bearer exemption… but it doesn’t – what it will get you is a hefty fine.
The download letter is a “responsible declaration” signed by the bearer. The thing is that in other regions such as Castilla La Mancha, Navarra, Asturias and Cantabria, it might be valid, but in Andalucía it is not.
On the other end of the scale, local medical facilities are getting flooded by people looking for an official “get-out-of-jail-free card” when they clearly are not eligible for one.
The Chairman of the Sociedad Andaluza de Medicina Familiar y Comunitaria (Samfyc), Alejandro Pérez Milena, has called upon public health users to avoid overloading doctor appointments in search of medical certificates, unless the request is medically justified.
According to figures at his disposal, GPs in the different provinces of Andalucía with as few as 30 to 40 people on their surgery lists get between three and four requests each day.
It is worth pointing out that being an asthma sufferer is not a cause for exemption from wearing a mask precisely because this respiratory condition is particularly susceptible to Covid-19 and therefore the wearing of a mask is more than necessary.
