Calabajío Beach Closed

ALM Playa CalabajíoThe first weekend of July has been a testbed for how the pandemic will affect beach use. Sunday the 5th saw overcrowded beaches in Almuñécar and Motril closed.

We have already covered the case of Playa Granada in Motril so we shall restrict the article to the case of Playa Calabajío in Taramay, Almuñécar because too many people had decided to use this beach at the same time.

Municipal police officers and beach auxiliaries set about asking people to leave and not everybody was happy about that. Fortunately, the vast majority of people cooperated without incident.

Playa Calabajío, which is located just below Hotel Playacálida, is about 170 metres long and some 30 metres wide. This beach, together with all the other ones on the Costa Tropical has room for 238,000 people even with the present health restriction concerning social distancing.
