End of Payments by Cash?

SPN 500 Euro Bin LadensThe Spanish socialist party, the PSOE, wants to gradually eliminate cash and have requested so via the Spanish Lower House of Parliament. The motion is part of a package to prevent and erradicate fiscal fraud.

The PSOE have presented a non-legislative motion, asking the House to urge the Government to consider this proposal. However, whatever the Parliament decides, it will have no binding legal effects.

In the meantime the Ministerio de Hacienda is planning to reduce the maximum amount that can be paid in cash from 2,500 down to just 1,000 euros.

The PSOE says that it is willing to debate this reduction with other parties but assures that they do not have a date in mind for such cash-payment reduction.

It should be remembered that on a regional level, Galicia has been the first autonomous region to recommend payments by bankcard during the health crisis in order to reduce the risk of contagion – handling bank notes and coins has a high risk of transmitting the virus.

Editorial note: the day that cash disappears then a Big-Brother conversion will be complete; paying by cash is the only way that you cannot be traced immediately.
