Almuñécar will hand out 10,000, reusable, marker cones to beachgoers to stake out their beach patch so that a safety distance can be easily observed.
Each beach user will receive four such cones; one for each corner (leaving a 4m gap between a neighbouring) to mark out they’re 4-sq/m spot – more or less, two strides by two strides.
The cones, which are made out of recycled material, didn’t cost the municipal coffers a cent. Each one has instructions in four languages on it: English, French, German and Spanish.
The idea is for the user to hang on to them; i.e., pick them up when they leave and reuse them the next time they’re on a beach.
Lastly, unrelated to the cones but related to beach use, the public toilets will be cleaned three times a day and will have hand sanitiser gels available inside.
Returning to the use of the cones, it will be the task of the lifeguards and their auxilaries (supplied by the Junta) to make sure that they are correctly laid out.
