Junta Criticised over Maro Golf

NRJ Maro Golf AcantilladosThe PSOE-A opposition at the Junta has criticised the governing coalition over permission to build a golf course on natural landscape.

Party spokesman in the regional parliament, Rodrigo Sánchez Haro, considers that this new ruling will facilitate development speculation and urban expansion pressure on protected natural areas.

He also warned that the golf-course project, together with its hotels and dwellings in the Acantilados de Maro area will only be the first to go up now that the regional decree was approved.

Spokesman Sánchez Haro says that the project is coming up against considerable social rejection because the project is bordering on protected land; the last such unspoilt land on the whole of the Costa del Sol.

“We need tourism that is linked to our wealth of natural patrimony and to sustainable development,” he said.

But it is not only the PSOE-A that is opposing the project as Adelante Andalucía through its Spokeswoman, Inmaculada Nieto, has described the decree as a large obstacle to a political consensus which is so badly needed in Andalucía to tackle social and economic recuperation.

Thanks for the periodic updates on this issue – the Seaside Gazette obviously values the seaside! Readers should be aware that there is a substantial and growing public opposition to the plans. The ‘No al Plan Larios’ website and facebook group ‘Tod@s para proteger Maro/Nerja’ are the main Spanish-language sites (though the website does have some documents translated). We hope there’ll be more information for the foreign community soon…
