Torrox has taken disinfection measures one step further than many others by installing a disinfectant wash down for vehicles entering the town. It takes the form of a gantry over the N-340 on the Nerja side that releases a spray onto passing vehicles.
Torrox is not the only town in the Axarquia to do it because Periana, for example has already set up such a system.
The Mayor, Óscar Medina (PP), explained, “There are still many vehicles entering the township for commercial reasons on a regular basis, so we are trying to eliminate the possible presence of the virus on the outside of these vehicles to minimise the risk of exposure for our citizens.”
There are instruction boards telling drivers to have their windows closed and to drive past without stopping at a maximum of 10MPH. The gantry allow vehicles of a maximum height of five metres.
The gantry blankets the vehicle with a fine curtain of Biodyozon, in a solution of water and salt. According to the Mayor this solution is not prejudicial for the vehicles, the environment or people’s health.
Finally, the Mayor publicly thanked the company, Semilleros San Isidro, that is providing the 9,000 litres of disinfectant a week.
