It was only a matter of time: an officer belonging to the Policía Local in Motril has tested positive for Coronavirus. Furthermore, six of his colleagues have been put into quarantine.

The Councillor for Citizen Safety explained that the shift roster had been organised precisely so that if one office went down, he wouldn’t infect all the other police personnel.

A combination of being in constant contact with the public – the idiots who find any excuse to dodge the lock down – and not having had sufficient protection against the Covid-19 virus from the beginning, had made their task a game of Russian Roulette.

Yesterday the Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, announced the the implementation of Municipal Emergency measures, which would permit the Town Council to count on all the municipal resources at their disposal.

Amongst those measures it reminds all public employees on the municipal payroll to be available and contactable at all times because they could be assigned to other essential services.
