Not long after first daylight yesterday, the body of the Missing Almuñécar woman was discovered floating near the Fuentepiedra breakwater (Paseo Reina Sofía).
It was a group of anglers who discovered the body of the Chinese resident and informed the Guardia Civil, whose maritime branch retrieved the body and took it to the Marina del Este. From there, it was transferred to the Instituto Anatómico Forense in Granada for an autopsy, as is the establish protocol.
According to the Councillor for Citizen Safety, Francisco Robles Rivas, barely 24 hours had elapsed since the woman disappeared to the discovery of her body and that indications are that she undressed and entered the sea. Her clothes were found on the breakwater and not next to the Peñon as stated in the original, press release issued.
The 50-year-old victim was married with two children and managed a family-run Chinese restaurant in the town. She had been reportedly suffering from depression for the last two months and according to the councillor, she had tried to take an overdose two weeks ago. Despite close supervision by the family, she had managed to slip out at five in the morning, ending in these dramatic results.
