Teens’ Vega Clean Up

ALM Vega Clean Up March2020Pupils from the IES Ándalus and IES Puerta de Mar secondary schools in Almuñécar were out cleaning up the vega at the beginning of the month.

Between them, they managed to collect 144 kilos of refuse around the Vega de Rio
Verde. The clean up had been organised by the Environmental Department at the Town Hall, which enlisted 100 volunteers from the said high schools.

Most of the litter that they picked up was around the water channels and lanes, comprising of bottles (plastic and glass), Tetra Brik containers and plastic packets. There was quite a lot of items picked up related to agricultural products, too.

All of the rubbish was weighed and categorised and the data passed on to Mares Circulares and the Municipal Environmental Department. Mares Circulares is an environmental project in which 170 NGOs participate, centred upon cleaning up the coastline and coastal waters.
