Almuñécar’s new PGOU foresees developing the vega behind Playa San Cristóbal, known as the Sandoval, but not everybody agrees with how it should be done.
The said development plan contemplates permitting 8-storey buildings in the southern part (the same height as Hotel Playa Almuñécar) for ‘”tourism use.” The rest of the said vega will belong to the Town Hall without it costing taxpayers any money.
Adelante Almuñécar (left-wing coalition) considers this a good move because it will preserve most of the vega as a ‘green lung’ for the town; i.e., the part that the Town Hall will hang on to without developing.
However, they have proposed a modification to distribute the build-per-metre over a wider area in order to cut down on floors permitted, so that it will include the vega between Avenida Costa del Sol and the main road, as well as on the Sandoval.
This would mean lower buildings instead of ones towering up to eight floors. The idea would mean that the new ones running down the side of Río Seco would only by two storeys high, working their way up to a maximum of five storeys near Hotel Victoria Playa.
