Almuñécar bagged the Third Prize of the Christmas Lottery with the winning ticket 00750 giving somebody 500,000 euros (50,000 per decimo).

This number is considered ‘feo,’ which is illogical because ever number combination has an equal chance of winning. But ‘feo’ it was, meaning that many were not bought – 30 series were returned unsold, which is equivalent to 15-million euros going back to the government.

A personal observation here: I bought 50007, which are the same numbers but in a different order and so won a stuning zero euros! Feisimo!

Anyway, Carolina Rodríguez in her lottery office in the Placeleta de la Rosa sold the ticket. The ‘ugly duckling’ (00750) was delivered in November to this office; the oldest in Almuñécar, and was on display with the rest.

If you were ticket 00750, it must have felt like being back at school waiting to be picked for the cricket team – well, it was for me because I couldn’t catch!
