Roundabouts in Spain are the Wild West at the best of times, never better demonstrated by the following article about a collision.
It all went wonky when one car decided to go around the wrong way – a rash choice. it didn’t take very long for a collision to occur but things only got worse when the culprit decided that he was urgently needed elsewhere and sped off at the next available exit.
To achieve this, he shunted the other, semi-attached car off the roundabout and a little way down the exit road, known as the Cerro del Águila in Torre del Mar next to the municipal swimming pool.
As this occurred around midday one Tuesday around the end of last month, there were pedestrians about who decided to record what was happening with the mobile phones.
The reason that the driver, a man from Periana, thought it best to be elsewhere was because his car didn’t have a valid insurance policy. In fact, after fleeing about 200 metres, he decided that it was better to continue on foot leaving the car abandoned.
However, he also abandoned his passenger, who had been slightly injured in the collision. The Policía Local were soon at the scene and attending to the injured man, who was taken to an Axarquía area hospital. The two women in the other car also required medical assistance.
The culprit, C.M.R., went into hiding and at the time of the writing of this article, had still not appeared before the police to make a statement.
