An elderly lady died yesterday as she waited in line to vote in Vélez Benaudalla.
The voting booth had been set up in the local junior school, CEIP Madrigal y Radial.
It was around 10.30h when the woman seemingly fainted so the emergency services were alerted via 112, but when the medical services arrived there was nothing that could be done for her as she had died shortly after fainting.
However, the incident did not affect the voting process and the school remained open so that Vélez Benaudalla residents could cast their vote.
Another incident over the weekend took place the day before. The Motril fire service had to be called out to deal with a car in flames just after noon on Saturday.
The driver managed to pull over and jump from the car which was pouring smoke, moments before it became engulfed in flames.
The woman at the wheel called 112 but by the time the fire personnel arrived, the car was a burnt out wreck.
