A couple were saved from drowning on an Almuñécar beach yesterday by a municipal policeman and a beachgoer.
A man phoned into the police station to say that his wife was in the water and couldn’t reach the beach owing to the surf and currents just off Playa El Tesorillo.
When the police arrived it was to find that the husband had gone into the water himself to save her rather than wait for the police.
Now there were two people in distress and worse still, the waves were pushing them towards the rocks.
One of the policemen stripped down to his underpants and dove into the sea, followed by another person, Jorge C.M. Between them they managed to bring the couple back to the beach.
Councillor for Citizen Safety, Paco Robles, praised both the policeman and Jorge C.M. for their courage, whilst also reiterating the danger of entering the sea when weather conditions are not favourable.
