A judge has released on a 4,000-euros bail, pending trial ,a man accused of being behind a spate of gasoline-station hold ups.
The violent robberies took place between the 2nd and 11th of January – the 20-year-old suspect was arrested soon after and has been held in preventative custody since then.
All told, the man stands accused of carrying out four, armed robberies starting on the 2nd of January at a service stop in Peligros where 650 euros were taken at knife point.
In the next hold up, also in Peligros, where a firearm was used, the thieves (there were several participants) only made off with 180 euros.
The next hold up took place in Armilla and netted 1,900 euros followed by one in Ogíjares on the same day (5th) resulting in a similar amount of money.
The last in the series of hold ups was against a service station in Pulianas and was carried out at knife point in the evening of the 11th.
Editorial comment: many drivers consider that it is daylight robbery when they have to fill up after a price hike at the pumps but it is the nigh time robberies that really hit the pocket. However, the question is, where is the logic in setting a bail on somebody who has allegedly stolen money; i.e., what is the origin of the bail money?
