One of the first decisions taken by the new Councillor for Citizen Safety & Transport, Paco Robles, was to open a new taxi rank in Almuñécar.
At a meeting with a representative of the town’s taxi fleet, Marcos Corral, it was decided to turn the Paseo del Altillo bus stop into a taxi rank during the evenings when the buses aren’t running.
In other words, from 22.00h until 08.00h this bus stop will be a taxi rank, just as soon as they have a taxi-rank sign purchased and in place.
Other points covered at the meeting and under consideration are: an awning (pérgola) for the taxi stop rank next to the bus station; a recharging point for electric cars; re-tarmacking on an annual basis; the elimination of cobblestone, road surfaces and a couple of other suggestion both plausible and unlikely.
Finally, this time concerning La Herradura, the local taxi sector would like to see the gardened area next to the taxi rank there removed.
Editorial comment: the taxi sector also called for the raised pedestrian crossings next to roundabouts to be eliminated and replaced with normal ones because the very proximity of a roundabout is enough reason for oncoming traffic to slow down without adding these annoying additions.
