This year, like those that have preceded it, is strewn with the bodies of women murdered by their husbands, boyfriends and Ex’s.

The latest case is of a 32-year-old woman in Granada who was stabbed 15 times in broad daylight in the Plaza de la Libertad. She continues to fight for her life in the ICU.

The 36-year-old aggressor confessed before the police, stating that he was her boyfriend, whereas in actual fact although they had been going out together, they had broken up and the victim had been going out with somebody else.

Although she had never officially denounced him for aggression against her, the aggressor had been reported by a previous girlfriend.

The incident unfolded Thursday the 16th when the aggressor stabbed the victim once then went over to a fountain where he washed his hands and the weapon and then decided to go back to the women who was lying, bleeding on the ground, and stabbed her 14 times more all over the body, including the neck, stomach and chest. Although he fled the scene, he was later arrested in the Placeta de Los Naranjos.

The victim had been living in a centre for women, victims of gender violence, where they are free to come and go as they please so that they can slowly get back control of their own lives at their own pace.
