Salobreña Cross-Country Race

SAL Cross CountryThe cross-country race, Villa de Salobreña, reached its tenth year with a record number of athletes competing; over 1,300 runners.

Of those 1,300 runners from all over Andalucía, 1,277 made it to the finishing line – the rest were shot for lagging… just kidding!

The reason for the large turn out was that this year the Gran Premio de Fondo Diputación-Cruzcampo coincided with the Campeonato de Andalucía (Ruta de 10 Kilómetros) organised by the Federación Andaluza de Atletismo.

This year’s route took them along the new, road layout where the hotels will be located, as well as up to the castle, pounding along the 10km circuit.

Winners? They were all tall and skinny and took in three of my strides to every one of theirs, given my Hobbit-like legs. Oh, their names? Here you go:

Males Category: Cristóbal Ortigosa (Pareja del Club Cueva de Nerja) followed by Miguel Espinosa de los Ángeles (Trotasierra) then Pablo Comino Márquez (Cueva de Nerja).

Female Category: Belén Infantes Rojas (Guadalhorce Álora) Janine Lima Rodríguez (C.A. Málaga) and in 3rd place, Mónica Ballesteros Rivas (Rincón Fertilidad Vélez).
