The La Herradura Sports pavilion is undergoing a change to its lighting, with LED lighting replacing the existing setup.
Up until now the ceiling lighting consisted of mercury-vapour lamps, which are gas discharge lamps that use an electric arc through vaporised mercury to produce light. These 36 lamps are being replaced by low-consumption LED lamps.
A local company is carrying out the job (Electricidad F. Matías) thanks to a budget of 8,202 euros, plus tax. But the savings in electricity consumption will eventually ‘pay for’ the new lighting system, because each bulb will consume 200 watts rather than the 580 watts consumed by the MV lamps.
