The statement by a German man in Tenerife that his wife and children had disappeared was blown apart by the account given by his 5-year-old son.
As a result of the child’s statement, the body of his mother and his 10-year-old brother were found in a cave, both bearing unmistakable signs of a violent death.
The 5-year old had been found wandering, frightened and in a state of shock around five in the afternoon of Tuesday – some locals said that they had heard a child crying around 11.00h in the morning.
One of the locals spoke German and was able to understand what the child was trying to say. The Policía Local were immediately informed.
He told the police that his father had taken his family to a cave where he attacked them; somehow, miraculously, he had managed to escape the trap.
The Guardia Civil, Policía Local and fire service’s rescue team had been out searching an area known as Taucho within the municipality of Adeje, which lies in the south of the island of Tenerife. Upon receiving the information given by the boy, the father was immediately arrested and the search area narrowed down to known caves.
According to the Mayor, the German family often stay in Adeje although they are not registered as residents.
The judge has put a gagging order on the case, but the autopsy that will be carried out today will confirm suspicions of a violent death.
