The worker unions representing employees of the municipal cleaning company in Motril have announced that there will be a strike on the 8th of April.
Representatives of the CCOO, CSI-F and the CGT said that the failure of the Town Hall to comply with previous subrogation accords entered into on the 7th of November, 2017 was the cause of the looming strike.
The union spokespersons pointed out that the object of this announcement was not so much to go on strike – nobody wants this – but to push the Town Hall back into talks. This comes after scheduled talks were cancelled by the Town Hall recently.
The dissolution of the publicly owned cleaning company, LIMDECO SA, was to conclude with the assimilation of its workers into the municipal workforce by the 10th of August 2018, with a final completion date of the 1st of October.
However, the Mayor later issued a decree denying 200 of the said workers the right to union representation. Then having eliminated this right she allegedly set about changing work conditions by failing to guarantee stipulated days off, the timely provision of work clothes and has also unilaterally altered the pay scales, claims the CCOO Spokesperson.
