Sergio González, who is the chef at Restaurante Firmvm in Almuñécar, won the 1st Prize at the III Concurso de Cocineros Chef Tropical 2019.
The 2nd prize was awarded to José de la Blanca, who is the chef at Restaurante Hotel Miba in Salobreña. The 3rd Prize was awarded to José Palomares who is the chef for Restaurante Club Náutico in Motril.
The finals were held in Hotel Victoria Playa in Almuñécar where the competitors were handed a surprise container with fish and meat contents. They had two hours to come up with original dishes using these ingredients.
Winning chef Sergio Gonzalez explained that the finals had been very difficult because they simply didn’t know what they were going to find in the box and two hours, he pointed out, isn’t very much time when you’re used to high-gastronomy cuisine. You’d be hard pushed to come up with a dish using a leg of lamb in two hours, for instance, he observed.
